The AcerTravelMate 360, now available locally, combines performance and application-rich features in a light and slim mobile computer. It provides a large screen, broad connectivity, support for both wired and wireless networking, as well as a powerful data and online transaction security solution. This is a user-friendly notebook, with an ergonomic design aimed at keeping users comfortable and productive.
The TravelMate 360 offers a GHz-class Mobile Intel Pentium III - M processor, thus ensuring that it is capable of processing the most demanding of applications. Graham Braum, notebook product manager at Acer says that protection against impact and vibration shocks while on the road are offered in the form of the notebook`s disk anti-shock protection system (DASP), combined with the durable magnesium alloy casing, which is approximately 15 x stronger than normal notebook casings. "It is predominantly business users that purchase notebooks. Given the importance of the data contained on these machines it has to be sufficiently protected while in transit."
The product is bundled with the PlatinumSecret Smart Card based security software suite, which includes PlatinumPAS, PlatinumSecure and PlatinumKey. Together these provide versatile, convenient and stringent security for not only data, but also e-commerce and online banking.
This notebook includes mainstream ports such as USB and external VGA, as well as IEEE 1394. The latter, explains Braum, allows users to connect digital camcorders or video applications to the notebook, as well as high speed storage and optical drives. "For legacy peripherals, a 100-pin docking port provides access to serial and parallel ports as well as a complete array of interfaces on the optional Acer EasyPort, without the hassle of cable management."
The TravelMate 360 features an integrated 10/100Mbps Ethernet for connecting to an office Local Area Network (LAN) and an internal 56K modem for dialup Internet access, remote LAN access, faxing and other data transmission applications.
The product is available with a built in mini PCI LAN module - supporting the IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN protocol. "This provides users the freedom to access specific pockets of data without being physically tethered to the network," says Braum.
Also included is a high performance chipset, fast memory and 13.3" XGA display. Additionally, Acer is offering users the option of an InviLink IR remote control unit for easy control of presentations via the front-mounted FIR port.
