One of the first desktop replacement, notebook PCs with a capacity to run at up to 20% (1.13GHz) faster than its predecessors has been launched by Acer.
The TravelMate740 series, which incorporates the latest Intel Mobile Tualatin 1GHz processor also utilises 40% less power - thanks to Intel`s new 0.13 micron chip technology.
Graham Braum, notebook product manager at Acer`s South African subsidiary, says the new Mobile Intel Pentium III Processor-M and Intel 830 chipset architecture delivers the highest return on investment (ROI).
"With the Intel power management innovations including enhanced SpeedStep technology, QuickStart, and Deeper Sleep, as well as Acer`s FlexFlow AirChannel thermal solution the TravelMate 740 series averages 4.5 hours battery life on a single battery," he adds.
Weighing in at 3kg, the TravelMate 740`s rugged construction includes a top lid constructed of extra-durable magnesium alloy which garnered numerous design awards around the world when first introduced by Acer on its ultra-portable, slimline range.
This new notebook is designed for the corporate user, with features to suit power users not prepared to compromise on desktop functionality.
Enhanced security is built-in fingerprint recognition technology which prevents unauthorised access to sensitive data.
And because individuals demand convenient mobility, the TravelMate 740 comes with wired - and wireless - LAN capability and is Bluetooth-ready. The built-in international fax/data modem and 10/100Mbps Ethernet ensures users stay connected wherever their business travels take them.
"With its 15-inch TFT SXGA display giving more viewing space than a standard desktop monitor, as well as a built-in DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and internal flat panel speakers the new release keeps business people at the forefront of mobile computing," says Braum.
The Acer TravelMate 740 is scheduled for release late-October with a street price around R28 000.
