Acer SA in line with international LCD monitor trend Q4 2003

Takes number one position in European `Branded Market`
Johannesburg, 04 Mar 2004

The fourth quarter (Q4) of 2003 saw Acer move to first place in the European market for standalone LCD displays, according to a recent Brian Norris Associates report, the European `Branded Market`. The company delivered over 420 200 units representing a 13.1% market share.

David Drummond, Acer`s Managing Director, Africa, says the figures give clear confirmation that the strategy of "Technological Innovation" Acer is implementing in all business sectors is appreciated by the market and by the thousands of new customers who now recognise the brand`s position of leadership.

He adds that Acer`s position of leadership in Europe is confirmed by the Taiwanese company`s position as top supplier of LCD displays in five nations in Q4-2003 and second or third ranking supplier in four more countries.

"With LCD panels representing around 50% of the total displays market in Europe, SA is now beginning to experience an upswing in demand. In the commercial sector the demand is driven by space saving, reliability, and ergonomic considerations. In the retail sector digital convergence has driven the emergence of demand on our multimedia and wide screen panels," says Drummond. "With retail pricing under R3 000 including VAT price is no longer an inhibitor and sales are set to boom.

"The importance of the LCD monitor segment for Acer is confirmed by the company`s continuous renewal of its products, with models ranging from 15- to 20-inch," he adds. "The latest TFT technologies, ergonomic design and reliability increase productivity, while elegant appearances create an attractive modern work environment."

Acer holds a position of leadership in the LCD monitor market in Austria (market share of 21.4%), Italy (market share of 32%), Switzerland (market share of 36.5%), France (market share of 12.9%) and Denmark (market share of 18.8%). The company ranks second in Spain (market share of 15.6%) and Belgium (market share of 14.8%), and holds third position in Holland (market share of 13.4%) and Finland (market share of 11.8%).

"Analysis of Brian Norris`s Q4 2003 figures confirms the positive trend Acer experienced throughout the year," says Drummond, "and strengthens our conviction that the complete solutions and innovative products we offer are widely recognised and appreciated by businesses and end-users."
