Acer TravelMate 620: ultra-portable, ultra-useable

Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2002

Now available in South Africa, Acer`sTravelMate 620 strikes the balance between power and portability. It is ideal for business users combining high performance, flexible security, comprehensive connectivity and multimedia capabilities with a specifically made ergonomic design.

Says Graham Braum, notebook product manager at Acer Africa: "The TravelMate 620 is made for easy transport and mobile usability - it is a comprehensive productivity machine for handling all types of office business applications. Not only does it boast a battery life of approximately 4.5 hours, but it incorporates an aluminium alloy for its construction which provides high quality thermal insulation properties and allows for the TravelMate 620`s light weight and durability. A new addition is its spill-protected mechanical design, which minimises potential damage to the system caused by accidental spillages.

"In addition, the 620`s Disk Anti-Shock Protection (DASP) system protects the hard disk drive and your data, and the Smart Card-based security system provides highly versatile, convenient and stringent security for not only user data, but also e-commerce, online banking, and other sensitive transactions," he explains.

The notebook is based on Intel`s most advanced and powerful Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-M, running at gigahertz-plus speeds, a fast 133MHz processor system bus and SDRAM memory.

With the flexible AcerMedia Bay, the machine meets all disk storage and optical media access needs. A hot-swappable DVD-ROM or DVD/CD-RW combo drive comes as a standard feature, allowing users to switch between drives with the power on.

Built-in Fast Ethernet networking and integrated wireless LAN are also available on selected models to ensure easy access of information. An international PTT-approved data/fax modem enables use of phone lines almost anywhere in the world, while the TV-out port can be used to display presentations or watch DVD titles.

The TravelMate 620 supports the optional Acer EasyPort for easy connection to office peripherals without the hassles of cable management. In addition, the machine features an IEEE 1394 port for connecting digital camcorders and high-speed storage devices.

"The notebook`s 15.0" SXGA+ TFT display provides quality graphics without compromising portability, efficiency or comfort," Braum continues. "A FineTouch keyboard, designed with an ergonomically curved key layout, includes an integrated four-way scroll key and five programmable launch keys to increase productivity and ease-of-use."

And last but not least, the TravelMate 620 adds design touches made especially to appeal to business users - like the optional InviLink IR remote control unit and handy laser pointer for use in business presentations.
