Johannesburg, 19 Sep 2006

Acer SA promoted the new Ferrari 1000 series of notebooks at Zwartkops racetrack yesterday.

The notebook, which has a light carbon- case, is based on AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology and is supported by dual-core technology. It also has intelligent power management features, the company announced.

"Following the huge success of its predecessors, the Ferrari 4000 and Ferrari 3400, Acer has made available to the public a truly exclusive notebook range that embodies the technology pioneered and perfected in the world of Formula One," says Stephen Morony, notebook product manager at Acer SA.

"The unit ships with 2GB of DDR2 667 MHz memory, upgradeable to 4GB using two 2GB soDIMM modules (dual-channel support), as well as a 160GB SATA drive, making the Ferrari 1000 well equipped to keep pace with today`s processing needs," adds Morony.

The new notebook also has an Acer OrbiCam, a 1.3-megapixel Web camera and an Acer VOIP Bluetooth phone. This connectivity is available through WLAN (with Acer InviLink 802.11a/b/g certified solution, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology), WPAN with built-in Bluetooth 2.0 module, LAN connection with Gigabit Ethernet cards and standard connectivity through the integrated 56K ITU V.92 modem.

The Ferrari 1000 weighs 1.7kg and has a five-hour battery life with two battery packs. All notebook functions can be managed with a single touch through the Acer Empowering Technology Empowering Key.

The Ferrari 1000 series has Microsoft Windows Professional Edition preinstalled. Additional installed software includes Adobe Reader, Norton AntiVirus and CyberLinkPowerDVD or CyberLink Power Producer, Acer GridVista and Acer Arcade Software Suite. The Ferrari 1000 is available from R21 999, including VAT.
