Acer`s notebooks dressed and built to impress

Johannesburg, 06 Mar 2005

With the trend towards mobility strengthening each year, the notebook market has begun to see further differentiation in its ranks and more competitive price points, two factors that may well see the next big PC upgrade cycle in the corporate market dominated by mobile computers as opposed to static desktops.

The reason notebooks are becoming more popular, says Traci Maynard, Acer Business Unit Manager at Tarsus Technologies, is the fact that today`s notebooks offer a vast choice of functionality to buyers. Users can choose from performance centric notebooks capable of replacing a desktop computer, to ultra-light notebooks for road warriors.

Alternatively, they have the option of tablet PCs that allow the user to write directly onto the notebook`s screen, or multimedia and entertainment focused units that offer large, wide screens, DVD-writers and immersive sound. That`s not to mention the integration of wireless networking and Bluetooth as standard features in virtually all of today`s units.

"The mobile buyer has never had this wide a variety to choose from and with Acer`s new line of offerings, the hits just keep on coming," Maynard says.

Starting with the tablet PC which is growing in popularity each year, Maynard says the Acer TravelMate C112TCI is the ultimate unwired and intuitive mobile companion to the out of office executive. Featuring convertible functionality that offers users the choice of adapting their notebook to either `tablet PC` or `notebook and keyboard` functionality, depending on their environment.

"The Acer TravelMate C112TCI`s tablet PC operation is also further enhanced through the use of Microsoft`s `Inking` technology. This enables the writing, editing, filing and storing of handwritten notes in the `Ink` format; the integration of voice recognition which gives the user the dual functionality of controlling their tablet with voice commands and dictating documents for conversion into text. The five launch keys give the user quick access to e-mail, the Internet, the toggling of WLAN on and off and two other user-assignable applications. The Acer TravelMate C112TCI is undoubtedly one of the most feature rich and mobile-centric tablet PC on the market today," Maynard says.

The Acer TravelMate C302 has a 14-inch EMR LCD screen and the ability to connect to a wired 100Mbps network connection, a 802.11a/b dual-band wireless connection and Bluetooth devices. Users are assured of excellent screen readability and the broadest range of connectivity options available today, when selecting the Acer TravelMate C302 as their notebook of choice.

"The Acer TravelMate C302 impressive specifications are also backed by an Acer FineTouch keyboard. This delivers greater typing comfort and a hot-swappable AcerMedia bay, which gives the user the flexibility to make use of different sized second hard disks. Users also have access to a vast range of optical drives and even a second battery for long-life on the road. The Acer TravelMate C302 is one of the most feature-rich notebooks in the Acer stable at present," she says.

If the Acer TravelMate C302 is still a bit on the bulky side, Maynard says that the Acer TravelMate 382TCI epitomises ultra-mobility.

"With a classy, ultra-slim design that weighs a mere 1.61kg, the Acer TravelMate 382TCI is the ultimate tool for executives that need to travel light, but maintain a high level of functionality. The 12.1" XGA screen`s ability to display crisp text and sharp graphics provides enough space for to work comfortably in both an office and mobile setting. This is all rounded out by a sleek and burnished-alloy case that not only delivers a high-level of durability, but ensures that this diminutive notebook turns heads," Maynard says.

Leaning more towards the multimedia realm, Maynard says the Acer TravelMate 8005LMI is the definitive desktop replacement for users that have a dual requirement for mobility and superlative functionality.

With Intel`s latest mobile and wireless technologies under the hood, users will be impressed by the Acer TravelMate 8005LMI`s ability to offer superior performance for processor intensive applications, while adapting to multiple connectivity environments and sparing battery life for the maximum unplugged working experience.

As if that wasn`t enough, the Acer TravelMate 8005LMI also includes a 4-in-1-card reader for easy retrieval and exchange of data between digital camera, PDA and smartphone memory formats. This notebook also supports Acer`s SignalUp technology, which increases the range and quality of wireless networking, in addition to a built-in Gigabit Ethernet port, which provides the user with the fastest networking speeds available today.

All of this functionality is rounded out by Acer`s EasyPort docking-solution, which ensures that the Acer TravelMate 8005LMI is a viable alternative to a high-powered desktop computer.

Maynard says with the range of options Acer has brought to the table with this latest range of notebooks, users from all walks of life, with a myriad of needs have been addressed completely.

"Adding to this impressive line-up is the fact that these notebooks make use of Acer`s customised E-Manager software, easing complex tasks like communicating with digital projectors, managing power savings and security. There is no reason buyers should look anywhere else, but Acer`s range of mobile options when considering their next notebook acquisition or moving to a mobile world," she concludes.
