Johannesburg, 14 Jun 2002

Acer has announced the addition of the TravelMate 630 to its line of notebooks. Following the success of the TravelMate 620 series, the TravelMate 630 provides guaranteed performance with the incorporation of the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M.

"The Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M has revolutionised the way we see computing," says Graham Braum, notebook product manager at Acer.

"Acer is one of the first to bring this technology to the mainstream segment by delivering the latest generation of mobile processors, DDR RAM, leading graphics technology and wireless LAN. With the TravelMate 630, you have the multimedia processing to not merely deliver a stunning presentation, but to immerse your audience in a multimedia experience they`ll remember for years to come. Basically, the TravelMate 630 is a powerful combination of value, performance and portability."

Addressing security concerns, the TravelMate 630 incorporates a smart card reader and is bundled with the Smart Card-based PlatinumSecret software suite, ensuring maximum protection against unauthorised access to the system and enabling secure e-commerce and banking transactions. In addition, the TravelMate 630 is equipped with an aluminium plate for added structural strength and maximum data protection, while Acer`s unique Disk Anti Shock protection (DASP) insulates your hard disk from the shocks of daily life.

This lightweight notebook features processing speeds of up to 1.70GHz and 256MG of DDR memory, upgradeable to 1024MB. In addition, the product includes an NVidia Gforce 2Go controller with 16MB of dedicated video RAM and either a 14- or 15-inch SXGA+ TFT display, delivering quality multimedia capabilities.

The notebook provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life and weighs from 2.5kg. It incorporates a 20/30GB ATA/100 hard drive and an AcerMedia Bay with either a DVD or DVD/CDRW Combo drive. The AcerMedia Bay provides users with the ability to hot swap a variety of devices including a floppy drive or second hard drive, enabling users to access data on a variety of media for maximum efficiency.

"This notebook is designed to ensure that users can access the information they need anytime or anywhere, as it includes built-in 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet, a 56K v.90 international data/fax modem and integrated wireless LAN in select models," notes Braum.
