ADC KRONE presents TrueNet Physical Layer Management solution

New physical layer management system with 10 Gigabit and zero bit error warranty
Johannesburg, 01 Aug 2006

ADC KRONE is launching the new TrueNet Physical Layer Management (PLM). TrueNet PLM is a fully integrated end-to-end physical layer intelligent solution for both copper and fibre enterprise networks.

The all embracing system enables network managers to manage the location and connectivity of every PC, printer, server, switch port, Ethernet device and copper or fibre circuit throughout a single or multi-site enterprise.

Based on the firm foundation of ADC KRONE`s renowned TrueNet component compliant connectivity and industry leading software, TrueNet PLM gives network managers true insight into the networks they control, including:

* Auto-discovery of an unlimited number of connections across multiple sites giving an up to the minute accurate picture of exactly what is connected to each port or outlet.
* Recovery of the up to 40% of unused network assets by identifying unused and `connected but unused` ports on patch panels and active equipment.
* Significant reduction of problems such as networks crashing and, by instantly identifying vulnerable areas, reduction of downtime and time-to-repair.
* Protection against unauthorised usage, illegal connections and device tampering. TrueNet PLM can immediately alert network management if an unauthorised laptop or PC is plugged in within a restricted area or if a server is disconnected, sending user defined alarms to mobile phones, pagers or e-mail.
* Issuing of scheduled work instructions for MACs (moves, adds, changes). TrueNet PLM uses LED indicators on its patch panels to show technicians or non-technical personnel exactly which patch cord to unplug and where to insert a new one reducing the risk of any human error, and will also notify the network manager of any changes outside the scope of the original work order.

TrueNet PLM is also ideal for branch-office sites because any non-technical person can be instructed to remove or insert a patch-cord as guided by the LED indicators.

With ever-increasing legislation on companies to protect corporate and customer privacy data, TrueNet PLM provides all the necessary administrative information regarding the network for compliance with such requirements as Sarbanes-Oxley.

The system uses an additional conductor in all copper and fibre patch leads and an additional contact per port in the patch panels, specially designed so that neither affects the transmission performance of the TrueNet connectivity components. The system also interfaces via SMNP into the switches within the network to aggregate all the necessary information into a real-time picture for the network manager. An optional CAD software module enables floor-plan display of relevant information, all running over a separate backbone so that the Ethernet data networks lose none of the available bandwidth.

When installed as part of an ADC KRONE TrueNet solution by an approved TrueNet Integrator, in addition to the 20-year system warranty, a full end-to-end, five-year Zero Bit Error Warranty is also given on the connectivity elements to assure users of maximum data throughput.

TrueNet PLM is as applicable to small enterprises as it is to large ones. Return on investment calculations show that for an enterprise as small as 100 people, payback can be achieved in 12 months and up to $33 000 can be saved over the first three years alone.
