Specialist distributor of storage solutions and Siltek IT Supply Chain company, Intelligent Systems (IS), has negotiated a distribution agreement with US-based Vixel Corporation that will see IS extend its portfolio to include Vixel's range of Fibre Channel interconnect products for Storage Area Networks (SANs).
IS MD, Chris Roux, says Vixel switches, hubs and transceivers provide the interoperability and compatibility needed to successfully build SANs using storage products from a variety of vendors. "This was exemplified at Comdex last year when a Vixel 2100 Zoning Managed Hub was used to connect components from 22 different SAN vendors."
Roux says the Vixel hub served as the core of both a Fabric and Loop Switched SAN display at Comdex, and also showcased its ability to operate in four independent, LIP isolated zones at 100MBps each.
Ron MacLeod, vice president, European sales at Vixel, views the appointment as another step in the process of extending the company's distribution channel and ensures its solutions are readily available on a global basis. "As more companies require an efficient means to access their stored data from anywhere, anytime, it is imperative we have the distribution channel established to meet that need," he notes.
Roux concurs but cites management of the SAN as the on-going challenge. "Part of the Vixel product suite is SAN InSite, a tool that provides a management solution for what typically would have required multiple tools and lengthy testing time to diagnose connectivity issues," he says.
SAN InSite allows users to remotely monitor performance of an entire SAN or the individual devices throughout the enterprise. The software's diagnostic tools are able to identify device faults rapidly, thereby minimising downtime.
Other products in the range include the Vixel 1000 Hub, a high volume unmanaged hub, the Vixel 2100 Zoning Managed Hub, the new Vixel 7000 Switch Series with Stealth Mode (Vixel's third generation private loop switching) and the Vixel 8100 Fabric Switch.
