Local Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) premier e-VAR, Smart Storage Technologies (SmartStor) has announced the availability of, and support for ADIC's AML/J automated storage library.

"The AML/J provides a combination of solutions for large-system data storage," says Tony Life, executive director of SmartStor.

Supporting more than a dozen technologies, the AML/J is designed for easy field integration of new drive technologies. "Since it supports concurrent operation of different technologies in the same library, older and newer technologies can easily co-exist," he explains.

The AML/J offers true scalability within a single library, where barrier-free expansion modules allow the system to be scaled easily and economically - from as few as two drives and 400 cartridges to as many as 226 drives and 7 500 cartridges - eliminating pass-through ports.

Says Life: "The system also facilitates sharing the library between different applications and operating systems. Its multi-host architecture enables the AML/J to become a shared network resource, which can also be partitioned into user-defined volumes."

In addition, the AML/J provides for automated data and media management and allows easy remote monitoring and operation.
