Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC), leading supplier of intelligent storage solutions to the open systems market, has announced the availability of a new version of StorNext data management software, version 2.5, that significantly expands support for operating systems and storage devices.
Confirming the launch and availability of the product, Tony De Sousa, managing executive of ADIC Africa, said ADIC's StorNext software provides policy-based data management that helps a wide range of organisations store, access and protect their large-scale digital assets across multiple storage device and operating platforms.
"StorNext provides advanced data management for third-party applications, providing users with a foundation to support their information lifecycle management (ILM) strategies," he said.
The new StorNext version 2.5 features expanded interoperability with several solutions from HP. These include HP-UX 11i v2 operating system support both on Itanium and PA-RISC platforms, support for HP ESL 712e automated tape library targets, and expanded support for HP SecurePath in HP-UX 11i environments. The expanded platform qualification will provide joint customers of ADIC and HP with a tremendous range of options, allowing them to deploy policy-based data management for HP environments and for systems that mix HP with other storage and operating platforms.
"Users are looking for smarter ways to manage their open system storage infrastructure and need solutions that preserve the widest range of options," said De Sousa. "With StorNext 2.5, ADIC continues to set new standards for supporting heterogeneous solution sets. We now offer end-users a data management solution that can provide unified storage with simultaneous support for all the leading open system Unix operating systems, including HP-UX 11i, along with Windows, Linux and MacOS platforms. What it means for the IT community is an unprecedented selection of applications, architectures and strategies to choose from."
De Sousa added that support for the HP-UX 11i operating system running on Itanium 2-based HP Integrity servers is an important addition for customers of ADIC's StorNext File System as it can benefit HP customers as a heterogeneous, scalable file system solution that combines performance, choice and economy.
The new StorNext 2.5 release also includes support for StorageTek SL8500 tape libraries, and updated versions of Red Hat Linux and SGI's IRIX operating system. In addition, the StorNext File System version 2.5 has received Engenio Compatibility Certification, assuring stability, interoperability and fault tolerance with Engenio disk technology.
StorNext includes a shared file system solution that already is established in several markets, including high performance computing, rich media, the federal government and oil and gas. Customers in all of these markets need to share access to large unstructured data files among Unix, Linux and Windows applications without making duplicate copies.
