Adobe gives South African creatives more to learn, live and love

Adobelive `05 boasts the highest calibre of local and international speakers. Since the first event in 2003, AdobeLive has given South Africans and opportunity to engage creative talent both locally and on the international stage.

AdobeLive 05 will run coast-to-coast reaching creative minds in the three major South African cities. This source of innovation, imagination and inspiration continues to fuel debate in the design, creative and artistic disciplines within the South African economy.

This year, the highest calibre of speakers will present papers at AdobeLive. The event has been positioned as the only national design and creative conference on the calendar. An offering of nine local and international speakers offer exceptional value for money for this not-to-be-missed event. The International Society of Typographic Designers - ISTD, (www.istd.org.uk), long-time ally of AdobeLive, will host eminent typographic designer Michael Harvey (MBE). Harvey has designed typefaces for Adobe, Ludlow and Monotype, and recently founded Fine Fonts, an independent digital type foundry.

In 2001 he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Services to Art, a significant honour bestowed by the Queen during an investiture at Buckingham Palace.

The programme also boasts Alan Rosenfeld, Adobe Senior Product Evangelist for Creative Suite (www.adobe.co.uk), Terry White, Adobe Technical Resources Manager for North America (www.adobe.com) and Mohammed Jogie, Design Evangelist for Africa (www.adobelive.co.za).

Apple Computer will showcase their latest offerings with Peder Engrob, Apple European Business Development Manager for Pro Design, Print and Photography (www.apple.co.uk), A second leg, the US-based, internationally travelled CSPowerTour will debut alongside AdobeLive. Renowned author and educator Sandee Cohen, author of InDesign CS VQS, co-author of Adobe Acrobat Master Class, and the Non-Designer`s Scan and Print Book (www.vectorbabe.com) will showcase illustration best practice from around the world. The South African Graphic Design Council (think) extends its partnership this year with think Design in Business presentations by regional chairs Gary Harwood (Johannesburg), co-founder and director of HKLM (www.hklm.co.za); Sean Harrison (Cape Town), CEO and founder of Code (www.code.co.za) and Garth Walker (Durban), principal and founder of Orange Juice Design, now part of the Ogilvy Group.

Casper du Plessis will showcase latest offerings from partner HP. Delegates will be treated to a live music mix by DJ Isaac "Dekock" Mothapo of Bambanani Productions.

Adobelive 05 will take place at Cinema Prive, The Pavilion, Durban on Monday, 24 October, Nu Metro Cinema Prive, Canal Walk Cape Town on Tuesday, 25 October, and Nu Metro Cinema Prive, Monte Casino, Johannesburg on Thursday, 27 October. The CSPowerTour (www.cspowertour.com), running alongside AdobeLive is a targeted group of sessions aimed at creatives who need quick answers. CSPowerTour will run at the Learn2 Digital Media Academy, De Waterkant, Cape Town on Tuesday, 26 October and Vega - The Brand Communications School in Benmore, Sandton on Friday, 28 October. As is custom at AdobeLive, student and lecturers pay half price. Members of think, CAF'E and the ISTD are eligible to discounted tickets as well. Special combo seats for AdobeLive and CSPowerTour are available too. "The aim of AdobeLive is to share ideas, spur debate, teach, learn and most importantly, give access to as broad a range of South Africans to the best creative minds from around the world that our budget allows," says Mohammed Jogie of Adobe South Africa.
