Adobe preps Mac-compatible Captivate 5
Adobe plans to release Captivate 5 and e-Learning Suite 2 for Mac OS X in June, writes The Mac Observer.
The release marks the first time Adobe's e-learning development tools will be available for the Mac. Captivate 5 is an authoring and development application for creating demonstrations and application simulations for electronic training.
It can record full motion in applications, automatically switches between still image captures and video captures based on the activity on screen, and lets instructors build conditional branching into their training videos.
New developer skills needed
The increase in popularity of social media has increased demand for Web developers with specific skills, according to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies, reports Computing.co.uk.
Web developers with real-time Java and Flash development skills are in particularly high demand, as are those with knowledge of open source frameworks such as jQuery. JMK Recruitment says the emphasis is now much more firmly on interactivity rather than plain information.
This is despite the fact that Web developers are currently paid 30% less than they were 10 years ago, at between £40 and £45 a hour.
Oregon schools to use Google Apps
The Oregon Department of Education will begin offering Google Apps to all public school districts in the state, says PC World.
The move will save the cash-strapped Oregon schools $1.5 million per year, according to Google Apps education manager Jaime Casap. Google Apps Education Edition is a cloud-based suite of apps.
It includes Gmail and Google Docs, the latter of which offers real-time user collaboration for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The school-oriented suite also includes calendaring, messaging, and video-hosting tools.
