A mobile advertising screen called Adscreens was unveiled at the 2006 Meetings Africa Conference in Sandton this week.

The 17-inch LCD screens with attached speakers are worn as backpacks to take multimedia advertising out into the public.

Distributed locally by Media Hype, the screens are designed to be rugged, waterproof and bright enough to be visible in daylight or night time conditions. Content is uploaded to a built-in mpeg and jpeg media player via a memory card, or updated from anywhere using GPRS technology. The player has several features including auto run, time sync, repeat function and volume control.

Media Hype will be responsible for selling advertising space on the Adscreens channel and will also lease the units to allow companies to own the advertising medium themselves and charge others for its use.
