Venture Computer, the sole distributor in Southern Africa for Lexmark International, today announced a set of new and enhanced print solutions that provide compatibility, convenience and enhanced function for key business applications.
As part of its commitment to simplify printing processes and allow effective alternatives for document management, Lexmark`s announcements include the ImageQuick Web SIMM which allows direct HTML and PDF printing, as well as Intranet- based document management. The ImageQuick Web SIMM is the industry`s first direct Internet printing solution that allows access to Web pages from the operator panel of the printer. Lexmark also announced updated bar code printing, image printing and forms printing solutions. "Lexmark`s new application solutions simplify end-user tasks by decreasing the time it takes to produce, update and manage documents," said Richard Fearon, Business Development Director at Venture Computer. "The end result is an increase in overall productivity as we move toward the digital office of the future, an office that maximises the performance of advanced document management systems."
New ImageQuick Web SIMM
Lexmark`s new ImageQuick Web SIMM, for Optra T and Optra W printers, provides direct and pull printing for HTML and PDF files. It includes a printer bookmark function that enables end-users to select a URL from the printer control panel in a customisable list. The printer will then go to the Internet automatically and pull the corresponding page from the appropriate Web site to print the requested number of copies.
This new function will simplify end-user tasks in many processes including PDF file and Web page printing and offer significant benefits when used to replace pre-printed forms with an Intranet based "blank-form on-demand" solution. It will also tremendously reduce the cost of producing, updating and managing pre-printed forms while providing a very convenient way for end-users to get blank forms.
In addition, the ImageQuick Web SIMM provides an easy way for Windows users to print faster PDF files and Web pages. Lexmark`s new Drag`N`Print utility allows users to drag and drop PDF and HTML files and URL links to a desktop icon to print them. In addition, users who regularly print the same Web pages can print all of them in only one step by dropping a folder containing the URLs to the desktop icon. The printer will then pull all the specified Web pages from the appropriate Web sites without requiring any additional user intervention.
Lexmark is also introducing enhanced application solutions that offer capabilities that can improve the successful operation of businesses today:
Image printing: The ImageQuick TIFF SIMM, the Lexmark image printing solution that enables users to print TIFF images at up to the printer`s rated speed, is now available for Optra T printers and will be available for Optra W soon. This solution provides exceptional printing performance with applications that generate black and white TIFF output.
Bar code printing: The Optra Bar Code SIMM, the intelligent Lexmark bar code solution that enables printing of bar codes in a variety of industry standard formats will be available for Optra T and Optra W printers. In addition, Lexmark expands bar code support by providing additional postal bar codes for Australia, Singapore and Britain, as well as the 2-D MaxiCode bar code. Special new fonts were also added, including OCR-A, the Euro currency symbol and other manufacturing and electrical symbols.
Forms printing: With Optra Forms, a printer-based electronic form printing solution, forms, fonts and all formatting information are stored in the printer. Host data sent to the printer is reformatted, repositioned on the page, converted to barcodes if required and merged with the form as it prints. The combination of the processing power of the printer and the powerful Optra Forms Merge firmware in the printer creates an elegantly simple e-forms solution. Optra Forms is now available for the new Lexmark Optra M, Optra T and Optra W printers, providing customers with an affordable, simple and easy-to-use electronic forms design and printing solution.
