Baan Company N.V, a leading global provider of business software, today announced the first implementation of Baan ERP on an IBM S/390 Parallel Enterprise Server by The Aerostructures Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wings and aircraft components for the aerospace and defense industry, across its Nashville, Tennessee enterprise. The implementation of 225 seats, which was completed in Q1 1999, is expected to help Aerostructures reduce overall operating costs, cut cycle times and achieve complete Year 2000 compliance.
"Baan Company ERP software was our top choice because it streamlines the decision-making process and reduces the cycle time by providing online, real time information," said Janice Hardrath, director of information systems, Aerostructures. "The new Baan Company business model is already allowing Aerostructures to create a system that provides the company with an integrated information system on our S/390 server, expedites the decision-making process, and provides the company with one primary source of data."
For the past few years, Aerostructures had struggled with a legacy system that included in-house, purchased applications and legacy applications developed more than 20 years ago. Integration was a time-consuming, laborious process in this fragmented environment, and the Year 2000 deadline imposed an additional challenge. After looking at all the ERP solutions available, Aerostructures chose to completely replace its current systems with Baan ERP software with A&D Extensions.
Hosting Baan ERP on the S/390 consolidates both the ERP application server and the database server on a single, easily managed platform. By using their S/390 server, Aerostructures will be able to reduce the number of programmers devoted to systems and allow them to spend more time developing new applications.
"Baan Company`s innovative approach to enterprise re-engineering gives our customers the ability to develop and implement a business model to best suit their business needs," said John Wilkerson, global vice president and general manager, Baan Company Strategic and Vertical Markets. "Baan ERP with A&D Extensions is uniquely suited for the A&D industry, and we are pleased that Aerostructures now joins the growing number of satisfied customers we are helping to maintain a competitive and leadership role in the aerospace and defense market."
70 additional seats are currently being implemented at Aerostructures` facilities in Brea, California and Everett, Washington, with an expected completion date in Q3 of 1999.
