AES Kelvin Power re-affirms confidence in MAXIMO

Johannesburg, 06 Aug 2002

AES Kelvin Power (previously Kelvin Power Station) has re-affirmed its confidence in the MAXIMO Work and Asset Management solution by upgrading to MAXIMO release 4.1.1 provided by the Pretoria-based technology group, MST.

AES Kelvin Power, a 600MW coal fired power station just outside the metropolitan area of Johannesburg, is selling its entire output to City Power Johannesburg, the distribution company for the City of Johannesburg under the terms of a 20-year power purchase agreement.

AES is currently the largest independent power producer in the world, with 173 facilities totalling in excess of 59 000 megawatts of power generating capacity in 27 countries. AES employs 54 000 people worldwide, and prides itself on extensive training and fast-track promotions of local staff.

Prior to the MAXIMO Upgrade Project in January this year, AES Kelvin Power (then Kelvin Power Station) reviewed several maintenance systems before deciding on MAXIMO, and found MAXIMO to be the most flexible and complete alternative available.

Kelvin Power Station selected MAXIMO to reduce its reliance on existing legacy systems and created an integrated work and reduce overall operations and maintenance costs while lowering its total cost of ownership in IT systems.

Leon Cronje, AES Kelvin Planned Maintenance Administrator, says: "The successful commissioning of MAXIMO in (June) last year resulted in several improvements in the areas of maintenance planning, tracking and reporting of labour costs, failure reporting and maintenance costs reporting. The decision to upgrade to MAXIMO 4.1.1 was reinforced by the enhanced functionalities and features of MAXIMO 4.1.1 enabling AES Kelvin Power to maintain a competitive-edge and reach a state of operational excellence."

Cronje adds: "The upgrade to MAXIMO 4.1.1 has strengthened AES Kelvin Power`s efforts to establish a world-class maintenance programme."

Danie van Vuuren, MST Sales and Marketing Director, comments: "MST is proud to be associated with such a world-class power utility and the MAXIMO Upgrade Project points to MAXIMO`s success in highly regulated, competitive and mission-critical environments."
