African Legend Technologies (ALT), a black empowerment company that reported a R100 million turnover last year, was officially launched at a function in Sandton last night.

ALT is a wholly-owned subsidiary of African Legend Investment Holdings Limited, and is headed by executive chairman Mashudu Tshivhase.

ALT includes divisions operating in several areas: African Legend Solutions (a Sun Microsystems partner and third-party reseller of AXS-One); African Legend Net (ISP and solutions and support); African Legend Consulting; a joint venture called AXS-One - African Solutions (financial, ERP and related business , e-government services and systems); and Africa Speaks (focusing on telecommunications, services and products).

ALT was formed as a result of African Legend Investment Holding Limited`s purchase of Star Award Solutions several years ago. However, Tshivhase said there had been "a number of unfortunate incidences and activities involving so-called black empowerment companies" since 1994.

"This is why it was paramount to us to launch at the right time and to do things the right way," he said. "We now believe we have reached a point in our evolutionary development when we can do things the way they should be done. We have the relevant management, skills and infrastructure, and we have established a track record of success."

"We firmly believe that with ALT, we have created one of the few real and effective black empowerment organisations within the ICT sector, and an organisation that will be able to hold its own within the local marketplace."
