Afrihost cuts ADSL to under R10 per gig, slashes 50% off monthly subs

Internet service provider (ISP) Afrihost expects that the free ADSL bandwidth it has set aside for existing subscribers could only last until the end of the Heritage Day long weekend.

As part of the celebration of its first decade in business, the ISP is offering customers three gigabytes of ADSL bandwidth for every one gigabyte of top-up bandwidth they buy. This special promotion is for Afrihost users with capped broadband accounts.

In addition, many new users signing up with Afrihost will receive 50% off their monthly billing until the end of the year if they sign up before the end of September.

Afrihost is currently in the process of rebranding the company and has also been offering its customers opportunities to win a range of prizes such as iPhones, iPads and 10 gigabytes prepaid bandwidth packages over the past two weeks.

Said Gian Visser, CEO of Afrihost: "One of the key goals of our re-launch is to thank existing ADSL customers for their support over the years. What better way to do that than be offering them some of the cheapest good quality bandwidth in town?"

Visser said R29 for 3GB - or just under R10 per GB - is one of the biggest broadband bargains in the South African market. Afrihost has set aside a significant number of GBs for the promotion and had hoped that this bandwidth would last until the end of September.

However, indications are that the bandwidth will run out before then because the response to the campaign has been so overwhelming, concluded Visser.
