Afrihost offers free GB accounts

Following a series of promotions and cheaper ADSL offerings from SA's Internet service providers (ISPs), Afrihost is offering free ADSL accounts with 1GB of data.

The ISP says the offer, which gives customers free each month until the account is cancelled, is not a promotion and does not place any obligations on clients to sign up. The accounts work the same as any other Afrihost account and allow customers to top up bandwidth, as with any other capped account.

"Regardless of whether a client tops up or not, they will always receive one free GB at the beginning of every month. Free GB accounts are permanently on offer and anyone can sign up for one, provided they have an active ADSL line and have not previously registered a Free GB with Afrihost on that line."

Users can sign up for Afrihost's free accounts directly from the company's Web site.

Afrihost says the free offer differentiates the company from other ISPs, which have introduced limited promotions and conditional offers, under pressure to offer cheaper ADSL products.

The offer follows Telkom Internet's uncapped ADSL price cuts in January, which spurred an industry price war. Other ISPs that followed in the pursuit of being competitive include OpenWeb, MWeb and Web Africa.
