Agito takes fresh approach

Agito Networks promises to save enterprises as much as 60% a year in cellular costs by automatically switching cellular calls to a company`s , says Computer Business Review.

Agito claims its mobile platform is the first to enable a seamless WiFi-cellular handoff while a user is on the same call, based on set geographic locations within a building or on an enterprise campus. "We`re filling the gaps in enterprise dual mode," said company co-founder and VP of marketing Pejman Roshan.

Agito`s location-based platform differs from other convergence technology that tracks the location of a handset every 30 seconds or so, Roshan said. Instead, Agito creates a routing location where the handoff occurs as soon as the handset passes it.

Foundry participates at conference

Foundry Networks, a performance and total solutions company supplying end-to-end switching and routing, today announced it will participate in three sessions at Interop New York 2007, reports CNN Money.

The first two sessions will focus on the importance and optimisation of application delivery, and the third will discuss the advantages and benefits of intelligent open convergence.

In addition to the speaking sessions, Foundry will exhibit at the conference. Interop will take place from 22 to 26 October, at the Javits Centre, in New York.

Convergence revenue rises

In the next five years, fixed-mobile convergence will generate more than $35 billion in revenue for service providers and hardware vendors, according to a new study from Insight Research, states Information Week.

Fixed-mobile convergence typically refers to the integration of wireline and technologies. Mobile devices that use the technology can make mobile calls using cellular networks, use WiFi hotspots or wireless local area networks for Internet access, and make voice over IP calls.

The underlying technology for fixed-mobile convergence is the Internet Protocol, which enables new services like peer-to-peer communications on mobile devices.
