SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African distributor for AirDefense, today announced the availability of two new sensor models for its advanced wireless intrusion prevention system, AirDefense Enterprise 7.0.
The new sensors can be deployed with AirDefense's ZeroCabling solution, which lowers the total cost of ownership by eliminating the need to pull an additional Ethernet cable. Traditionally, cabling costs exceed the sensor or access point hardware costs, but with ZeroCabling companies can reduce deployments costs significantly.
In a recent Network Computing review of Wireless IDS/IPS systems, AirDefense was ranked first in the 'Sensor/Probe Design and Implementation Category'.
The new Model 500 sensors include the M510 sensor, a compact sensor with internal diversity antennas for most office applications. The exterior casing on the M510 sensor has the appearance of a common smoke detector, making it ideal to inconspicuously mount in any building for security monitoring and location tracking. The M520 sensor is designed with a compact metal enclosure, better suited for industrial applications. The external rubber duck antennas allow the sensor to be mounted in any orientation, while ensuring maximum coverage. Both Model 500 series sensors are plenum rated (UL 2043) for mounting in plenum space and comply with the ROHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) directive for import into the European Union member nations.
The Model 500 series sensors can accept Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) from an 802.3af compliant switch or midspan. Using PoE eliminates the need to run separate power to the sensor, reducing the installation cost of the sensor. In addition, AirDefense offers a unique ZeroCabling solution to quickly and cost-effectively deploy wireless security monitoring sensors in existing wireless LAN deployments. AirDefense offers an innovative, standards-compliant, power and data sharing solution that allows a single Cat5 cable to service both an access point as well as a dedicated sensor. This patent-pending technique can virtually eliminate the cost of running extra cables for each sensor.
"ZeroCabling technology developed by AirDefense offers enterprises a significant cost savings by eliminating the need to hard wire each sensor to a dedicated Ethernet cable," commented David Thomas, vice-president of product strategy at AirDefense. "As the leader in wireless intrusion prevention market, AirDefense is committed to offering corporations the most complete wireless intrusion prevention/detection products that are more powerful than any other products on the market and come at reasonable costs."
