In a press statement, Alcatel-Lucent says the network expansion is part of a multimillion Euro wireless broadband network transformation deal that was made last year with Togo Cellulair.
The deal was made in the hopes to extend Togo Cellulaire network capacity in GSM and to build the first 3G network in the country.
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected as the sole supplier for the project. The company states the wireless network will enable Togo Cellulaire to offer advanced mobile broadband services, reach a greater number of subscribers and improve quality of service.
Atcha-Dedji Affoh, Togo Cellulaire CEO, says: “We look forward to Alcatel-Lucent's converged technologies and professional services to support the delivery of advanced, high-speed 3G services that will support economic development throughout our country.”
Recently, Alcatel-Lucent was awarded another African mobile network contract with Milllicom Ghana, under the brand of Tigo. Alcatel-Lucent Optism mobile marketing solution is being used by Tigo to deploy opt-in advertising on mobile phones.
