Alcatel-Lucent inaugurates new training centre at the “'Ecole Sup'erieure Multinationale des T'el'ecommunications (ESMT)” in Senegal.

Dakar, 03 Jun 2009

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the inauguration of a new training centre hosted on the premises of the “'Ecole Sup'erieure Multinationale des T'el'ecommunications” (ESMT) in Senegal. The launch of the centre follows the signature of a partnership agreement between Alcatel-Lucent and ESMT to jointly promote education and skills development in the field of mobile telecommunication services in Senegal.

This joint project will ensure that scholars at the ESMT are equipped with the relevant and practical curriculum and that they are trained using the latest technological platforms, which will in effect have a positive and significant role in the improvement of skills in the field of telecommunications services in Western and Central Africa.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent supplied and installed equipment and platforms for the development of this training centre; while ESMT hosted the centre on its premises. The training centre is comprised of a transmission platform and a GSM Base Station System (BSS) platform.

Mohamadou Arabani Saibou, director of the ESMT, pointed out that this agreement is one more step in “the long and fruitful co-operation” between Alcatel-Lucent and the ESMT, and will enable both entities to contribute to the development of skills in Senegal and the quality of education in the country as well across Western and Central Africa.

“The opening of this state-of-the art training centre at the heart of Western and Central Africa reflects Alcatel-Lucent's commitment to learning, while enhancing the proficiency and performance of telecommunications skills in the region. The centre confirms Alcatel-Lucent's ongoing investment in bringing world-class knowledge and expertise to Africa,” said Fr'ederic Sallet, vice-president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Northern, Western and Central Africa.
