Alien Technology raises $15m
Alien Technology said on Tuesday it has raised an additional $15 million in equity financing to expand operations, Biz Journals reports.
The Morgan Hill-based company specialises in radio frequency identification (RFID) ultra-high-frequency products and services. The round was led by Advanced Equities Financial and existing shareholders.
Alien's RFID products and services are used to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and security of supply chains, logistics and asset-tracking operations, SYS-CON Media said. Alien's products include RFID tags, RFID readers and related training and professional services. Retail, consumer goods, manufacturing, defence, transportation and logistics and pharmaceuticals are among the industries that Alien serves.
Alien readers, tags and chips are all aimed toward providing robust, real-word RFID performance, especially in challenging environments. Alien links these products with its unique services, including the industry recognised Alien Academy that accelerates customer RFID knowledge and arms customers with knowledge to implement the most optimal system in the most practical and pragmatic manner.
Investors are betting on a new management team and the possibility that the once-ballyhooed RFID market can still be lucrative, if not quite in the way Alien originally envisioned, The Wall Street Journal notes.
