Alienware boosts graphics
Alienware, a manufacturer of notebook, desktop and professional systems, has enhanced the graphics power of ALX CrossFireX desktop computer by four times with the deployment of ATI CrossFireX, says CBR.
CrossFireX is a multi-GPU system developed by ATI Technologies. It enables the use of up to four graphics cards in a single computer to improve graphics performance.
Though it has been made available for consumer level hardware only recently, a similar technology, AMR, has been in use for some time in professional grade cards for flight simulators and similar applications.
MTS sells notebooks
MTS, Russia's largest mobile operator, plans to expand into selling notebooks with built-in 3G modules, in addition to mobile data cards and USB dongles, says Wireless Design & Development Asia.
The notebooks will be bundled with a monthly mobile broadband data plan and targeted at consumers.
The announcement follows similar moves by such providers as Telefonica O2, T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone, Globul and PLDT in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Asia.
Lenovo builds GreenGuard PC
Lenovo has announced the ultra-small Thinkcentre M57P Eco desktop PC, the first desktop PC to gain Greenguard certification, reports The Inquirer.
Greenguard certification is only given to products that don't emit potentially harmful levels of up to 2 000 chemicals including volatile organic compounds. It is awarded by the US Greenguard Environmental Institute, which has tested and certified more than 150 000 products and materials.
Lenovo's Eco PC is built using recycled consumer plastics and is both EPEAT Gold and Energy Star 4.0 rated.
