All six FET Colleges in Western Cape now live on ITS Integrator

Johannesburg, 06 Mar 2012

The remaining three Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges have gone live on the ITS Integrator system in the Western Cape.

Boland College, West Coast College and South Cape College have all implemented the ITS Integrator student management and finance management systems, providing them with the benefits of a fully integrated system that provides accurate, up-to-date data.

Boland College made a conscious decision, when the project started in 2010, to only go live in 2012. “The college wanted to give adequate time to get its entire staff on board and to become familiar and comfortable with the system,” says ITS project manager Elmarie Bremner. “The whole system is now up and running correctly. All our staff were trained in 2011, enabling a smooth launch of the system for registration in January this year,” she says.

West Coast College also went live on the ITS Integrator system in January this year after project constraints were experienced. South Cape College finalised the set-up of the ITS Integrator system in January this year and went live mid-February.

These three colleges form part of a larger rollout of the ITS Integrator to FET Colleges in the Western Cape. Northlink College was the first college to implement the ITS Integrator system in 2006. College of Cape Town and False Bay College all went live on the system in January 2011.

“The biggest problem facing FET Colleges is the inability to access accurate data in order to report statistics to the Department of Education in the Western Cape,” says Bremner. “FET Colleges receive government funding based on the statistics and information they report to the department, making the ability to report on accurate statistics vital to the functioning of these institutions. The ITS Integrator system will enable colleges to access accurate data on any aspect of the institution at any time. All these specifics can then be recalled and used to complete all the reports that are required by the Department of Education,” Bremner concludes.

“The ITS Integrator system is hosted centrally at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) for the Western Cape and a number of other FET Colleges. This methodology contributes to a lower overall technology cost for participating colleges,” says Frans van den Berg, Marketing Manager at ITS. “This, together with an agreed licensing model for the sector, makes the functionally-rich ITS Integrator system an ideal solution for public FET Colleges,” he concludes.
