Gadgets such as the latest smartphones and tablets are likely to feature at the top of the wish lists of a broad spectrum of individuals - from teenage cyber geeks to senior business executives - this festive season.
But are they wishing for the right thing if they want the unprecedented freedom and power these gadgets can bring to one's work and play?
Andre Joubert, GM of MWEB Business, believes they should also be asking for more bandwidth: this adds to the value of the device as it creates an almost seamless experience for the user.
He points out that this season's hottest gadgets are likely to be upstaged by others that are hotter, sexier and smarter by Easter (if not by Valentine's Day).
“In any event, the real power of these gadgets lies not in the tablets, smartphones or notebooks themselves, but how one combines them and connects them to something else or to each other.
“In fact, what ultimately brings the gadgets to life is super-fast, affordable, robust and reliable uncapped broadband that connects the gadgets to the cloud and the myriad apps available there,” he says.
Joubert warns, however, that while there are a wide range of exceptionally affordable uncapped ADSL offerings available, users - particularly business people - should ensure they opt for a solution that suits their requirements.
Not all uncapped ADSL offerings - not even those labelled 'business uncapped' - deliver the same performance. Throttling and shaping can significantly slow your connection. In short, your experience with any device will depend on the quality of the connection you are using. Demand a connection that is uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled.
