LA Technology, together with its reseller, Quantum Services, was recently involved in the installation of an ACCPAC solution at Alstom Mechanical Equipment (ME), a division of Alstom S.A. LA Technology supplied Quantum Services with AccPac for Windows, MISys Manufacturing, General Ledger and Fixed Asset Register for installation on the Alstom ME network.
The existing DOS-based MISys Manufacturing system was upgraded to a Windows-based version. "While the upgrade was partly motivated by Y2K compatibility issues, the decision to move to the AccPac for Windows platform was based on the offer of extensive added functionality," says Jeremy Waterman, MD of LA Technology.
The extra functionality includes full integration of accounting and financial functions, enhanced security and implementation of standard costing. The Windows version also enables reorganisation of sales procedures, automated sales verification and invoicing, as well as flexible bills of material to cost customised production items. MISys for Windows enables more effective use of works orders systems. "The advantage of MiSys Manufacturing is that it has been developed as a dedicated AccPac for Windows companion solution and thus integrates fully with AccPac," adds Waterman.
According to Dave Everett, MD of Quantum Services, the choice of AccPac allowed for an upgrade of existing systems without the threat of losing data. "AccPac also provided a solution that enabled Alstom to improve its customer service and lead times, enhance the efficiency of the business, and reduce its stock holding."
Craig Johnston, project manager at Alstom Mechanical Equipment, adds, "Alstom ME`s main line of business involves rapid recosting and bill of material revision, and thus requires a solution equipped to handle this environment. AccPac together with MiSys provided a holistic solution that fulfils all of these business requirements."
