Altech ISIS has landed its first customer in Mozambique, Telecommincacốes de Mocambique (TDM).

TDM is embarking on an initiative that will see the implementation of next-generation long-term evolution (NGN LTE). In order to pursue NGN LTE, TDM will replace its 15-year-old Giraffe billing system with a new system, called Gaia. This system, which is provided by French company SOFRECOM, will support and enable TDM to provide GSM and mobile billing.

Altech ISIS will be upskilling staff to ensure the new system is implemented properly and to ensure best practice is followed.

Anton van Heerden, GM at Altech ISIS, says that, with all the excitement surrounding LTE, it could be easy to overlook how the practices of will impact mobile operators. He adds that in order to benefit from the promised efficiencies of LTE, operators must embark on a long-term mission to strip out legacy networks, systems, business processes and working practices.

TDM offers ADSL Internet services for both home and business users and is primarily a landline ; it is Mozambique's national fixed-line operator.
