Amazon drives enterprise cloud
DatacenterDynamics reports.
The AWS Storage Gateway stores data onsite and replicates it to Amazon's cloud asynchronously, and can be used for disaster recovery.
CloudPro says the idea behind the product is to enable businesses with their own data centres to connect to AWS' cloud through software installed onto commodity hardware in-house.
It's aimed at companies wanting to run backup or disaster recovery in the public cloud, with volumes of 12TB available.
Amazon states in a ZDNet report that the service enables a business to securely upload data to the AWS cloud for cost-effective backup and rapid disaster recovery.
Data stored in an enterprise's data centre can be backed up to Amazon S3, where it is stored as Amazon EBS snapshots. In the event an organisation needs to retrieve a backup of the data, it can easily restore these snapshots locally to on-premises hardware.
