Amazon.com adopts SAS9

By SAS Institute
Johannesburg, 03 May 2004

Driven by the need to speed up the process of gaining intelligence, Amazon.com - the world's largest and best known online bookstore - opted to be among the early adopters of SAS Institute's newly released SAS 9, even before it was launched.

Commenting on the move to adopt SAS 9, Diane Lye, senior manager: Worldwide Data Mining at Amazon.com, said: "Companies today are compelled to gain more intelligence in a shorter timespan so that they can use it to drive their business to new heights of shareholder value and profitability.

"SAS 9 enables us to get more analysis out of the same hardware in a shorter timespan. The timelines for everything we do are tight, and SAS 9 allows us to move faster, and analyse more data."

Faster, more efficient and easier to use than its predecessors, SAS 9 includes an intelligence platform that gives enterprises the opportunity to exploit the value still hidden in the vast oceans of data, text and voice that they collect on a daily basis.

SAS 9 offers the prowess and depth needed to provide decision makers with the information they need to drive a business forward. It provides a single technology platform that builds on an organisation's existing technology investment, adding value to the enterprise by providing a single version of the truth.

It offers companies the ability to understand the past, manage the present, and predict the future, and because the software uses existing hardware better, total cost of ownership of SAS 9 is low.
