AMD planning ultrabook challenger

AMD's Trinity platform is expected to be the foundation of a new line of "ultrathin" notebooks, essentially the same as an Intel ultrabook, but with AMD hardware.

According to ITProPortal, AMD will be looking to combat Intel this year by pursuing an aggressive pricing strategy with its newly announced Trinity family of chips.

It is likely AMD ultrathins could be up to $200 cheaper than their Intel counterparts.

According to reports, AMD's Trinity will offer the same performance as the company's A-series Llano notebook accelerated processing units (APUs), but will consume 50% less power, eWeek reports.

Like all APUs, the 32-nanometer chips will offer the CPU and graphics technology integrated onto the same piece of silicon. They will also come in dual- and quad-core versions.
