Amdahl unveils storage products to challenge market leaders

The Amdahl Business Unit at CCH Enterprise Solutions has announced the launch of two storage products by Amdahl which have been designed to take on the might of market leaders IBM and EMC. Amdahl`s GSS4900 general-purpose storage system is the most powerful and largest product of its type on the market, holding up to 64 terabytes of . It is aimed at organisations requiring data growth management as well as the capacity to provide widespread access to data.

The GSS4900 can act as a `ready-to-go` SAN (storage area ), says Albert Teirlink, GM of the Amdahl Business Unit at CCH ES. This enables companies to deploy the system without having to design and configure a specialised network.

Amdahl has also unveiled its StorStream offering, an integrated storage solution aimed at media companies requiring load balancing as well as storage space. "StorStream is designed to support emerging media streaming users on the ," Teirlink said. "It`s a comprehensive solution - not just storage. Video-on-demand services require massive storage, recovery and backup facilities."

StorStream allows multiple media streaming servers to access one large storage pool containing virtually unlimited numbers of files. Integrated management software makes adding, deleting and moving streaming media files more efficient and less costly.
