AmVia launches simple, effective SMS solution for corporate users

Johannesburg, 15 Jul 2002

Mobile messaging solutions specialist AmVia has launched expreSMS. This exciting new product enables individuals at corporate level to send SMS (short message service) messages quickly, reliably and cost-effectively to global destinations directly from the desktop.

AmVia has partnered with Clickatell, which offers turnkey wireless communications solutions to corporate customers in the global market, to provide the SMS technology and infrastructure for expreSMS.

Kevin Hurwitz, mission control: AmVia, says the development of expreSMS focused mainly on the product`s ease of implementation and use.

"SMS products available to users in the corporate environment are often complicated to use. They usually require intense integration and demand costly set-up fees." Hurwitz says expreSMS is a prepaid product and AmVia provides the software free of charge.

"Since the application requires less than 1.44MB disk space, expreSMS`s executable file fits on a stiffy disk. It can be installed easily by the individual user on any personal computer."

Hurwitz says Clickatell`s superior carrier infrastructure enables a global delivery time of about six seconds for SMS messages. This makes the solution extremely fast and reliable.

"And with expreSMS the message costs the same whether the recipient is situated in the same office as the sender or at a global location."

Furthermore, Hurwitz says, expreSMS provides control for the company by allowing the system administrator to manage SMS usage by users.

Danie du Toit, marketing director: Clickatell, adds: "Until now, the technology, high-speed delivery and services offered via expreSMS have not been available in SA, especially not to individual users in the corporate sphere.

"The solution presents Clickatell, which mainly operates on a global basis, with an opportunity to move into the local business market."

Du Toit says collaboration with AmVia, which has an extensive client base and distribution network, means the necessary channels are in place to ensure an extensive roll-out of expreSMS.

Hurwitz concludes: "Although expreSMS is primarily aimed at individuals within the local corporate market, AmVia and Clickatell have also set their sights on the global market."
