An economic alternative for housing server equipment

Johannesburg, 06 Apr 2006

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has released the PRIMECENTER SME rack, a lower cost option for mounting all Fujitsu Siemens Computers servers and storage products. Servers from other vendors and all rack components complying with the 19-inch industry standard for rack cabinets can also be housed in this rack.

The PRIMECENTER SME rack has been developed as a cost-optimised rack for price-sensitive projects as an alternative to the high-grade PRIMECENTER rack family, as well as to address the needs of the SME market to a greater extent and to sell more rack-optimised servers in this market. The SME rack is ideally suited for service providers or customers and partners who have their own IT installation departments that can carry out all installation work directly on site.

"The PRIMECENTER SME rack is a high-quality rack option at a low price point and allows us to gain a foot in the door for requests for proposals relating to racks," says Rui de Oliveira, Product Manager Enterprise Computing at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "After the customer`s requirements have been clarified, an offer for high-grade PRIMECENTER racks can be made in order to provide the customer with an optimum solution."

The PRIMECENTER racks offer the added value of being fully fitted with all components ex works and a 36-month warranty with on-site service, a load-bearing capacity of up to 1 000kg and anti-tilt protection built into its design.

The SME rack can be offered in requests for proposals that prescribe a 42U rack; however, the SME rack does not come with a side mounting location for components such as the KVM switches. It comes complete with side panels and lockable trellised doors. The trellised doors are flat without any special design elements, and have a clamp handle. This rack is supplied without anti-tilt protection, but with a drilling template and the option of fastening the rack to the floor.
