Analyst Gartner names K2 top visionary among .NET BPMS providers

Redmond, Washington, 20 Mar 2009

K2 was named the leading visionary for process-driven solutions on the Microsoft platform, in technology analyst Gartner`s 2009 Magic Quadrant.

Gartner`s report ranks the top 22 vendors offering multi-regional, cross-industry business process management (BPM) suites. This is K2`s debut on the Magic Quadrant, and it was included in the evaluation "largely because of the high interest we see among our clients", the report states.

Gartner recognised K2 (www.k2.com) as an innovator for its vision and focus on the future; its deep integration with the Microsoft product stack and the quick return-on-investment it brings to Microsoft customers; its focus on fostering collaboration and empowering a broad range of users; its SKU strategy, which allows customers to incrementally advance their BPM maturity; and its strong community and partner ecosystem.

K2 brings a unique vision to the market, Gartner analysts wrote, and they called K2 blackpearl "a major architectural advancement" from its previous product, K2.net 2003.

"[K2] recognises a need for business and IT professionals to come together in new ways to succeed in BPM," the report states. "Its vision reflects the wide range of process maturity seen in the market, extending from enabling basic workflow through dynamic processes."

K2 software provides easy-to-use tools for building process-driven applications that improve business efficiency. K2 applications can be set up to automate and manage business processes - such as document approval or inventory tracking - or pull together business processes, people, services, information and systems into a single application that helps drive business. Then, what`s been built can be used like building blocks to assemble new applications.

K2 software strips away the complexity of traditional application development to foster collaboration between business people and technical people.

"Innovation is and always will be one of our very top priorities," said K2`s Adriaan van Wyk, CEO and co-founder. "We are pleased that Gartner understands the benefits we provide and acknowledged K2 as a visionary.

"We work very hard at staying ahead of the curve and at understanding the role of technology in organisations of every size and shape, for today and for the future. This is why we continue to invest heavily in new features for our software and in the next iteration of the K2 platform, including its alignment with Microsoft`s future Office releases and .NET platforms."

More than 40 providers worldwide were considered for the 2009 Magic Quadrant, of which 22 met the inclusion criteria. Forty companies were included in the report last year.

"[K2] has aggressively gained market share around the world by delivering deep integration; exploiting the growing popularity of Microsoft technologies, such as SharePoint and Office; and using indirect sales channels," the report states. "This company understands the Microsoft developer mentality and priorities."

K2 keeps things easy by making everything visual, role-based, declarative and re-usable, the report states, and K2`s "ecosystem of more than 200 partners and 6 000 K2 Underground members [provides] a significant community of expertise and knowledge sharing."
