Analytix has reworked its business continuity management (BCM) training course to include the features of the new British Standard for BCM, BS 25999, which was published in December 2006.
According to Craig Rosewarne, Executive Director, Analytix: "BS 25999-1:2006 has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) in conjunction with practitioners throughout the global community, drawing upon their considerable academic, technical and practical experiences of business continuity management. It has been produced to provide a system based on good practice for BCM.
"It is intended to serve as a single reference point, for identifying the range of controls needed for most situations where BCM is practiced - in industry and commerce, and to be used by large, medium and small organisations in industrial, commercial, public and voluntary sectors."
"The release of the BCM standard provides South African organisations with the opportunity to benchmark the level of business continuity and disaster recovery capibility an organisation should attain, and offers a general process for achieving this.
"BS 25999 raises important implementation issues for senior management as well as business continuity managers, and provides a guide that clearly defines the process, principles and terminology of BCM. BS 25999 follows in the footsteps of a range of successful British standards that were evenatually published as international standards, for example: ISO 9001, ISO 14000, ISO 18000, ISO 17799," says Rosewarne.
BS 25999 will be published by BSI in two parts:
BS 25999-1:2006 - Code of practice for business continuity management
BS 25999-2:2007 - Specification for business continuity management, will specify the process for achieving certification that business continuity capability is appropriate to the size and complexity of an organisation.
BS 25999-1:2006 replaces PAS 56:2003, which has now been withdrawn.
According to Rosewarne: "The market has reacted very positively to Analytix BCM training, indicating that there is a need for South African organisations to align their BCM activities and strategies to an acknowledged standard for BCM. A large number of leading South African organisations, which includes the majority of local financial institutions, have attended Analytix BCM training since the introduction thereof in 2005," says Rosewarne.
BS 25999 ensures that mission-critical and key risk-scenarios have been included, and that businesses respond to adverse situations in both a timely and appropriate manner. BS 25999 is of relevance to all organisations regardless of size and industry sector, and should be used both by businesses who have already implemented and developed a BCM programme and those that need to upgrade their business continuity arrangements to meet new risks and threat-scenarios.
Analytix's BS 25999-based two-day practical BCM Foundation course provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of business continuity management.
On completion of the course, delegates will be able to successfully implement, manage and maintain business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans, within their organisations.
By understanding the process involved in BCM, participants will also be better prepared to review and audit existing plans. Analytix have BCM Foundation courses scheduled for 22 and 23 February, and 19 and 20 April 2007. There are still seats available on the courses.
