Angstrom Microsystems goes green
Angstrom Microsystems has developed five key approaches to reduce its carbon footprint and save energy, reports CNN Money.
Angstrom points out that it uses recycled materials for product packaging and hardware and software solutions that reduce the power needed to drive computing.
Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems, says: "Angstrom reduces power consumption in three ways: by reducing the number of computers necessary to operate; reducing the power to cool the computers that are used; and finally by improving the electrical efficiency of each computer."
Ocarina Networks awarded
Ocarina Networks, an online storage solutions provider, has been presented with the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence Award, says PR Canada.
The award is presented to the company that best implements innovative, environmentally friendly and sustainable technology within its industry.
Anirudh Srinivasan, research analyst with Frost & Sullivan's Technical Insights team, said: "We are pleased to recognise Ocarina Networks for its breakthrough implementation of a novel storage optimisation technique that dramatically reduces power, cooling, and storage costs, reducing the digital footprint, and thereby the carbon footprint, of online storage."
Lenovo enters server market worldwide
Lenovo has rolled out its new range of ThinkServers at Interop, which are geared towards small and medium businesses, says Beta News.
While the company already markets some classes of servers to enterprises and smaller businesses, up until now, they've only been available in Lenovo's home country of China.
Lenovo has introduced a zone cooling system for its ThinkServers which is designed to lower electrical bills while also reducing heat in the environment.
