Annex goes to Intel's Extreme to provide desktop processor power

Johannesburg, 11 Dec 2006

Intel Corporation, through its local distribution partner Annex Distribution, is proud to announce the availability of the Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor to the local market. Shaun Welgemoed, Intel product manager at Annex Distribution, believes the introduction of this new quad-core desktop processor is a significant step forward in the quest for multi-core and parallel computing.

Annex Distribution is an official distributor of Intel-based technology and solutions. The Midrand-based company has ensured stock availability, training and product knowledge around the new solution in support of its reseller base.

Annex product managers are keen to market what they believe to be "critical building-block computing infrastructure" that addresses the need for effective management over multi-threaded digital media applications.

"The essence of this technology is that it assigns actions or tasks to specific cores and frees up additional processor resources to improve levels of system performance," says Welgemoed.

"There has been a steady growth in interest and adoption of Multicore technology. Investors see the benefit of making this technology a central element of their communications setup. It offers an increase in speed and general performance, especially when multi-media applications are being used. And now consumers can leverage off this technology at desktop level," he continues.

One of the main areas where this technology will make a difference is within the gaming market. The Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor is designed to improve game play and maintain frame rates, picture resolution and true-to-life graphics and sound.

"We anticipate a strong response from this segment of the market mainly because of the fact that the solution offers four separate processing cores," adds Welgemoed. "This particular solution is designed to enable effective multitasking and platform support."

The Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor incorporates a number of features that are designed to give gamers and power users the upper hand from a technology perspective.

These features include Quad-core processing, Intel Smart Memory Access and Intel Virtualisation Technology.
