BitDefender has upgraded its BitDefender Standard and Professional Plus desktop software by including anti-spyware capabilities, says Grayford Holton, MD, Holton & Associates, BitDefender distributor in southern Africa.

The spyware module was introduced as a separate product last June and has now been integrated with BitDefender security applications, Holton says.

The BitDefender anti-spyware shield scans and blocks spyware threats in real-time by checking accessed files, including those received via Web, e-mail and P2P transfers, he says.

An on-demand system scanner which checks for malicious cookies, registry entries, processes and applications is included.

BitDefender anti-spyware is certified by Checkmark, an independent organisation that uses its own search system to accredit anti-virus software, similar to the function of the South African Bureau of Standards, Holton says.

The new product versions will be distributed to existing users via the regular update process, and are available for trial or sale at the BitDefender Web site, or from official distributors.
