AOS chooses VERITAS Backup Exec

VERITAS Software Corporation, The Data Availability Company, today announced that Automated Outsourcing Services (AOS) has selected VERITAS Backup Exec to protect its 24 mission-critical file and SQL servers. VERITAS Backup Exec was chosen specifically for its intuitive ease of use and its online backup capability, thereby increasing operating efficiency while ensuring the company`s critical data remains continuously available to users.

The ability to perform an online backup of databases ensures that all files, including open files are backed up. Behind the scenes, VERITAS Backup Exec automatically restores itself without the user knowing. According to Renier van Vuuren, IT consultant at AOS responsible for server availability, "Online backups save us time and ensure important information is continuously accessible.

"VERITAS Backup Exec offers protection of SQL databases using Microsoft`s Virtual Device Interface (VDI) which ensures online backup capabilities - including full and transaction-log backup," adds van Vuuren.

Another key feature for AOS is the ability for multiple technicians to utilise the product. Depending on a single person for backups processes is potentially disastrous, as that one technician might not always be available. Because VERITAS Backup Exec is easy to use, with an easily recognisable GUI, van Vuuren says he can quickly and easily explain to another technician, who may be unaccustomed to working with VERITAS Backup Exec, how to perform the task.

"The interface is extremely easy to navigate, and the support that we have received on the product is also very good. This is critical to our organisation as we cannot afford to loose back up functionality at anytime."

Van Vuuren also cites the product`s stability and cost saving benefits as important. "The compression from this product is better than any other NT compression I have ever encountered, which naturally reduces our backup media costs."

Nick van Noordwyk, regional director for Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software, says, "VERITAS Backup Exec is a solution that automates a wide variety of administrative tasks which increases operating efficiency."

Van Noordwyk highlights that VERITAS Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server is a flexible way to protect Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server data while the application is online. "It also gives administrators the flexibility to perform mailbox backup with selective restore, allowing for recovery of each individual message. VERITAS Backup Exec incorporates database protection and storage management options for specialised networking environments, such as that of AOS. "These agents are designed for complex messaging and transactional intensive databases," he adds, "which provides options for server recovery that can be installed from any centralised backup server."
