Net1 Applied Technology Holdings (Aplitec) company Cash Paymaster Services (Northern) has been awarded the Limpopo government tender for disbursing social pensions.

The tender, NTP 8342, covers the period from 1 December next year to 30 November 2006.

Aplitec says the financial terms and conditions will be disclosed only in January, after finalisation of the level agreement.

At the same time, Cash Paymaster Services (Northern) says it has received approval for the extension of the existing tender, NTP 1799, for 1 December this year to 30 November next year.

It says beneficiaries will be issued with smart cards to store their biometric fingerprint , enabling them to access their social welfare grants at any time or any place.

Aplitec uses the optical fingerprint sensor technology supplied by SecuGen Corporation to capture and verify biometrics and its vehicles are fitted with the equipment to make cash payments in rural areas.

Recipients of welfare grants present their government-issued ID document to have their fingerprints captured on the system. To receive payment, they present their smart card and are authorised by the matching of their fingerprints against the encrypted templates stored on their cards.
