Apple has reportedly officially sent out invitations to its eagerly-awaited event on 10 September. The invite, which has been posted on various tech Web sites, shows many colourful dots with the tagline "This should brighten everyone's day".
The event has been one of Apple's worst-kept secrets, with rumours doing the rounds for months. The computing giant is expected to unveil its next iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 5S, at the event. Consumers could be in for a double treat, with the budget iPhone, the iPhone 5C, also expected to be revealed.
A number of reports suggest Apple could also be announcing the release date for its next-generation mobile OS for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, iOS 7, at the event.
The official invite puts an end to rumours stemming from a research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who reportedly wrote the launch date for the new smartphones has been postponed towards the end of September "due to supply constraints".
Nothing substantial is yet known about the coming 5S, but rumours over the last few months suggest the phone will feature a similar design to the iPhone 5, sport a dual flash with a vertical pill-shaped window as opposed to a round window for the LED flash, and could be long-term evolution-advanced (LTE-A)-enabled.
It is also suggested that Apple could be deviating from its characteristically monochromatic colour range by bringing out a gold-coloured version of the handset.
