Apple drops iPhone 2G support

In response to an e-mail from a customer at MacStories.com, Apple CEO Steve Jobs reveals the company is planning to drop support for the original iPhone 2G, says Know Your Mobile.

According to online reports, Apple will not be offering its upcoming OS 4.0 platform for the original model iPhone.

Earlier Apple did say some aspects of OS 4.0 will not work correctly on the 3G or older iPod Touch models.

Google to intro iPad rival

Back in January, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said when asked about the iPad: "You might want to tell me the difference between a large phone and a tablet.” Now, Google is apparently planning a 'large phone' of its own, and will have to answer that same question itself, writes Dvice.

According to the New York Times, Schmidt told friends about the new device, which would exclusively run the Android operating system.

Also, Google is in talks with content publishers to bring books, magazines and more to the future device. It's not an 'official' announcement, but about as close as one can get without a full-blown press release.

BlackBerry app aids texting drivers

BlackBerry has released a new application called Auto TextBak that offers a simple solution to the ever-growing epidemic of texting and driving, according to KWGN.

This application enables users to easily set an away message that will automatically reply to incoming text messages.

It is like an out-of-office e-mail response, for a smartphone.
