Apple files patents for future gadgets
Computer manufacturer Apple has continued its run of patent applications, applying for patents related to facial recognition technology and features that would allow its devices to display data on other objects, reports SmartCompany.
One patent, which was filed just one week after the company applied for more touch-screen-related patents, is called ID App and would enable portable devices to display data on nearby objects.
The application would use some sort of camera or GPS technology to identify certain objects and compare that against data.
Robot learns to smile
An Albert Einstein look-alike robot is learning how to express itself through facial movements in research that could pay dividends in education and autism treatment, says Smarter Technology.
Researchers at the University of California at San Diego outfitted a robotic Einstein head with tiny motors that pull muscles this way and that.
Then the researchers programmed the robotic face to learn different facial expressions through experimentation and feedback.
Samsung unveils green hard drive
Portable hard drives are a dime a dozen, and there are already many players available in the market currently, states CoolestGadgets.
Samsung aims to be at the forefront with their most recent release, the Spinpoint N3U, which will incorporate a native USB controller on its printed circuit board.
This optimised design will ultimately result in a much smaller footprint, alongside a greener solution with less power consumption and optimised performance that makes it suitable as a portable external storage device.
