Apple in top five

Apple is the fourth biggest laptop manufacturer and the fifth biggest desktop manufacturer in the US, says Macworld.

Apple has 9.9% of the laptop market and 7.7% of the desktop PC market, being beaten by eMachines with 16.4% of the market.

This is according to the Bloomberg report, detailing the top computer hardware sales for the month of March 2007.

Sony unveils Blu-ray laptop

Sony has released its new Blu-ray compatible notebook PC, the VAIO FZ-Series, says Tech.co.uk.

The notebook features 2GB of RAM and is based on the Santa Rosa Intel Centrino platform. Hard disc sizes go up to 200GB.

Aimed at the movie-watching community, the laptop has a 15.4-inch screen and has an HDMI connection for plugging into a television.

Scholars like laptop programme

Schools in Pennsylvania, USA, are providing access to laptops for students in English, maths, science and social studies classes, says NEPA News.

This is due to the $20 million "Classrooms for the Future" project and, thus far, it has been quite successful in Pennsylvania.

Governor Ed Rendell claims the programme helps students to become familiar with technology later in life, and he's trying to increase the budget to $90 million.
