Apple OS 4.0 boosts VOIP
During the iPhone OS 4.0 event, Apple revealed its iPhone operating system, version 4.0, will support third application multitasking as well as Skype voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) service, reports Phones Review.
Skype on the iPhone, without being able to run in the background, is currently limited to outgoing calls, but this will change following the release of iPhone OS 4.0.
However, without Skype being able to take advantage of AT&T's 3G connection, it still remains limited to WiFi even though Skype released an updated version of the app which was presumed would work over 3G and Skype did say 3G calling would be “coming real soon”.
iPad nabs 51% of tablet market
Apple's iPad is expected to dominate the PC tablet market by 51%, while 24% of tablets will be based on Google Android, says eWeek.
Sagem, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and AT&T are driving PC tablets for VOIP and IPTV services.
Apple and Google Android will grab 75% of the tablet market through 2010, as the iPad's immediate success has proven the consumer market is hungry for tablet computers, according to IMS Research.
