Apple pulls WiFi finder apps

Apple is removing another category of apps from its iPhone App Store, reports CNET News.

Apple removed several WiFi apps commonly referred to as stumblers, or apps that seek out available WiFi networks near the user's location. Apps removed by Apple include WiFi-Where, WiFiFoFum, and yFy Network Finder.

"We received a very unfortunate e-mail today from Apple stating that WiFi-Where has been removed from sale on the App Store for using private frameworks to access information," says WiFi Where-maker Three Jacks Software.

AT&T intros SME apps portal

Mobile IT managers of small to medium enterprises needing guidance in finding the best mobile applications for their companies have a new tool at their disposal: a mobile app portal from AT&T designed specifically for that purpose, states Internet News.

The wireless carrier has upgraded its Small Business Mobile Application Recommender Tool (Smart) that offers improved payment processing and that recommends mobile downloads based on a company's needs or specific industry.

Additionally, AT&T released four mobile applications that focus on streamlining business tasks in the field and that can be purchased directly from the revamped Smart portal.

Mobile cloud apps market grows

The market for mobile cloud-based applications aimed at enterprise customers is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, according to a new report, writes iHotDesk.

Juniper Research's Mobile Cloud Applications study told IT outsourcing users that the sector could have more than 130 million customers by 2014.

The report claimed the expansion will be caused by the entry of more platform-as-a-service offerings from large companies such as Microsoft and Google.
