Apple releases iPhone update
Apple has released an iPhone software update that improves communication between the smartphone and wireless networks, reports Canoe Technology.
The iPhone 3G connects to cellular providers' speedier third-generation networks and is to deliver snappier Web surfing and online video viewing than the year-old original model.
Customers who shelled out $199 for Apple's iPhone 3G posted complaints about dropped calls and spotty wireless broadband connectivity. The iPhone 2.0.2 software update aims to improve connection with 3G networks.
HTC Dream gets thumbs up
The FCC has given its seal of approval to the HTC Dream handset, which is to be the first cellphone to carry Android, Google's open platform for mobile handsets, says Cnet News.
The HTC Dream will feature WiFi, Bluetooth, and a "jogball"-type navigation toggle (similar to the trackball on the BlackBerry Pearl) and it will support WCDMA 1700, T-Mobile's new 3G band.
Google's handset will face stiff competition by the likes of the iPhone 3G and the upcoming BlackBerry Bold.
Cuil takes on Google
A new search engine branded Cuil may eventually give Google a run for its money, according to The Digital Dentist.
The technology company unveiled its innovative search offering, which combines the biggest Web index with content-based relevance methods, results organised by ideas, and complete user privacy.
Cuil (www.Cuil.com) has indexed 120 billion Web pages, three times more than any other search engine and goes beyond today's search techniques of link analysis and traffic ranking to analyse the context of each page and the concepts behind each query.
